Fr. Bernardine Carosi (1827-1890) This good Italian priest was born at Norma in the Diccese of Velletri on the 25th of December 1827, and his secular name was Raphael Carosi. In the year 1843 he was clothed in our habit in the Novitiate of Our Lady at Pugliano near Paliano and after finishing the ordinary course of study and being ordained priest he was chosen with others to go to England to help the ” servant of God, Father Dominic of happy memory, in the conver- sion of that Kingdom, It may he imagined how much he had to do and suffer during the first establishment of our Congregation in that country, but that he fulfilled most laudably the duties that fell to his lot we may gather from the fact that he was elected Consultor in the 4th Provincial Chapter of the Anglo- Hibernian Province, and afterwards made Rector of the Retreat at Harborne several times. The continual fatigue to which he was subjected weakened him so much that at times he was searcely able to breathe and he was sent to our Retreat in London to rest for @ while. On the 10th May he got permission to leave the Retreat for some time and whilst taking a walk he fell into a fit and was carried at once to the nearest Hospital. Some of our priests were im- mediately apprised of the sad occurrence and going as soon as possible found him deprived of his senses. Absolution and Fx- treme-Unction were administered to him, but he was unable to receive the Holy Viaticum., The priests remained with him till the last, assisting him by their prayers, and he died in the same Hospital. His body was carried to our Church and buried in the grounds adjoining the Retreat after the usual exequies had been perform- ed. ile was sixty-fdve years old, forty-sev6én of which had been spent in our Congregation, and almost forty in working for the conversion of England. May God grant him eternal peace.
