Br. Bernard McSally (1845-1899) Brother Bernard of the Immaculate Conception, in the world James McSally, was born at West Aughamullen, Ireland on the 25th November 1845. Feeling himself called to the religious state, he entered our Congregation and was professed at Broadway 19th November 1876. After his profession he was successively stationed in several of our Retreats where he acquited himself of the duties imposed on him by holy obedience to the satisfaction of the superiors. More than 10 years before his death he was trans- ferred to St. Paul's Retreat, Mount Argus, near Dublin. Though in very delicate health he was always cheerful and made himself dear to all by his amiability and readiness to render to every one any little services in his power. Shortly after the Easter of this present year he was attacked by influenza on which pneumonia supervened. Though he suffered much he never manifested the Slightest impatience but was full of thankfulness for the smallest kindness shown him. Feeling his end approaching he received the last sacraments with the greatest devotion. On the morning of the 15th April he tranquilly fell asleep in the Lord leaving to his brethren the consoling remembrance of his many virtues. (June 1899)
