Fr. Bonaventure Fitzherbert (1859-1926) THE BV. Fk. BONAVENTURE OF TRE SACKED HEART OF MARKY. fo the sorrow of the Province and especially of hin Confreres in St. hungo's Ketrest, Glasgow, Fr. Bonaventure pasred into Rternity on the 2nd February, 1926. He had gone to Inverurle, Aberdeenshire, for the double purpose of assisting a@ life-long friend and friend of the Congregation ~ Fr. Thompson, and of reeruiting weakened health; but that health was broken irreperably, and he died doing God's Work, Fr. Bonaventure was born in Dublin on 3ra November, 1859, and was educated by the Irish Christian Brothers. He entered the Congregation of the Passion in 1877 and was ordained st Remmeremith, London, on 1¥th February, 1663. trom his ordination to his death he was an incessant worker - he died at the work of God. He possessed a subtle, cnltured mind, and as n preacher was mach sppreciated, Up to middle faige he wes kept constantly giving Missions in Ireland, England eni Seetlanéd: yet, during his life his health was never robust. His, however, was a strong will, and that was the efficient driving force against the lassitude incléent on an eiling body. As a keligious he wee careful in the observance of his Vows and hule; a6 Paasionist he was a faithful Son of the Congregation who worked, and if need be, could fight for the honour of Hie Mother who received him among her Sons; 88 5 Priest he was kind to sinners, fenerous to the poor, and loved little ehildren. He wes e man of varied capacities - in Preaching, Ministering, in Government and finance; in organising and foresight he was sbove mediocrity. He was ever devoted to the Mother of G04 to whom he pledged his devotion at his profession - devoted and faithful to her Heart and ite interests. His death in Glasgow caused wide sorrow and evoked large and wide- spread sympathies. The Archbishop end almost the whole Cathedral Ghapter and 4 great member of Clergy attended his Requiem. The Church was filled and the streets lined with mourners ap his remain6 were removed for burial. .
