Br. Francis Moore (1893-1965) Obituary Notice of the Late Bo. Francis ¢.P. Provinces of St. Patrick On November 25th 1965, the death occurred in Dublin, after a prolonged illness of Bro. Francis Moore C.P. For the last few yoars of his mortal life he ws cared for by the Brothers of St. Joha of God. To this Passionist Brother, tired after labouring for so long for his Congregation, these apostles of the Sick gave their unstinted care and golicitude. As the mortal resains of this Soldier of the Cross were borne in funeral procession from their Nursing home these men impressed all present by the dignified manner in-which this last tribute waspaid. Bro. Francis wasborn in Enniskillen on May j2th, 1893. After leaving school he worked for some time and was o constant visitor at St. Gabriel's Retreat, the Graan. By the ageof 24 he had deci. ed thet in the consecrated lifeof a Passionist Lay Brother he could. best serve God and hisfellow mon. As aNovice he wos exemplary and cven at ‘that point in his religious life he showed that he had grasped (thr ugh his prayer, his thoughtful reading ond his former regular visits to the @raan) the inner men ing of the Passtonist vocestion. He medehis profession on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Camel 1920. For ashort time he continued in Enniskillen before being traisferred to St. Paul's Retreat Mout Argus Dublin. His Laboursin Dublin were to last only 2 few years. Then came the call from his Superiors to take up residence in Holy Cross Retrcat, Ardoyne, Belfast. It washere he spent the restof his fruitful apostolatebefore finally h-ving reluctantly to giveup all activity. It ishere, both by the Community and by thepeople, that he was best known and remembered withkindness and gratitude. Humility wes the virtue above all by which this member of St. Pa rickts Province will be remembered. Nobody wuld ever have known from his lips the extent of his labours in the apostolate or the moterial assistmee thet he wag responsible for rendering to Holy Cross Retreat. For all pricsts, in spite of their humm weaknesses, he had the most profound respect, because his strong ond deep faith saw above and beyond all human frailty to their sharing in the priesthood of Christ Himself. Because of his intense love for God be had avreat lov. for his fellow men. He knew that charity must first be shown fo tiemenbers of one's om household. He never at my time complained thet he had too much to do, and, in fret he wis constm tly at the beck and call of the members of his comimity. He seldom waited to be asked to do an act of charity. He saw where the need Lay ond was‘ttt the scrvice of the Brethern es if by an intuitive grasp of their every wish.

2m Contd. Up to 1958 he worked untiringly and in the very midst of thot work he collapsed and was shortly unconscious, For some montis he rested frxm his almost lifetime lebour of questing, but, even ashe rested he hoped cad prayed thet he vould soon be fit to resume the work he loved, While he was wove really well agcin, as soon as he feltscnewhat better he resumed. the work thet ne loved so well, Within twelve months he was forecd by sheer physical exhaustion and on medics] advice to give up untirely the active life of questing to which he hed so devoted his encrgies. Even after this he still busied himself with my tasks within the Monastery. In October, 1962 needing spccial attention, he was placed under the care of the Alexien Brothers at Weirenpoint. Later, however, his illness beezmme svich thet his Superiors felt thet he necded truabuent that eculd best be piven in Dublin. The ordinary people, smong whom he worked in his questing especially those living in the country in Northern Ircland, engerly look.d forward to his visits. He ome to them with a kindly heart and a readiness to listen to their probluns, ond he never left any home without giving his consoling advice. He spoke little of his grevt work in this aphere and go the fullness of his achievements are known to God alone. In his death the Province of St. Patrick hes lost a devoted follower of St. Paul of the Cross, and the people of Northern Ireland a genuine and sympathetic fricnd. toly Cross Retreat, Ardoyne, Belfort.
