Fr. HUBERT de Neve (1836-1866) Jeso Onnistr Passio, Pray for the repose of the soul of the Rev. Father Hosert or Buesnd Beneptor Lapvns, (John de Neve,) Pas- siovist, who died atSt Mungo’s, Stanhope Street, Glasgow, on the 28th July 1866, in the 30th yeur of his age, the 6th of his life in Raligion, and 2d of his priesthood. geal = Futher Hubert was born in the parish of _ at, near Bruges dn Belgium, on the 20th Auguat 1836, While studying for the Prieat- ‘ hood in tho Seminary of Bruges, he became acquainted with the Provincial of the Pussionista in England, and begged to be admitted into the Order, which being granted, he came over tu England and received the 9. habit on the 11th November 1860 at St Saviour's Retreat, Broadway, Worcestershire, Ho made hia religious: pro- fession on the 12th November of the following year. He went through his studios in the Paasionists’ Retreats of London and Dublin, and fiunlly waa promoted to the Priesthood by the Right Rev. Dr Guus, Bishop of Liverpool, whilst residing in the Retreat of St Anne, Sutton, Lancashire, on the 10th of June 1805." Soon after Christmas of the same yenr he wns aeut to join the other Fathers in Glasgow, where he laboured constant! , and died, we may truly aay, » victim to his real and duty. Whilat aavisting a patient who died of typhus fever, he caught the same disease, and, after a short illness, bo calmly expired. Father Hu- bert wua the first Passionist that died in Glasgow, and the second that ever died in-Bootland, . ’ His funoral obsequies took place in 8t Mungo's Church on Monday, 30th July. The Right Rev. Dr Gray being prevented by indisposition from singing the Requiem Mass, the very Rev. Oumond officiated in tha presenoe of a large concourse of Priests and people, all deeply improased at the premature death of this sealous young Priest, He was interred in the Oatholio Cemetery of Dalbeth, The funeral cortege atarted from St Mungo’s soon after Mass.
