Br. JOSEPH Leroux (1810-1865) BRO. JOSEPH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN (LEROUX) 1810-1865 Bro.Joseph was born in April 1810 at Sailly sur la Lye, near Arras, France. Professed at Ere on 18th March 1842, he was the first Brother to make his profession outside Italy, and the first professed Brother of our Province. Some years after his profession he was sent to England, The records do not give the dates of his stay in England or where he was stationdd. But while in England , "he was attacked by a malady that weakened and dis- ordered his brain." (5) He was sent back to Belgium in the hope that the brain damage might be cured, but his mind was irrevocably affected. He was placed'in a mental home run by the Brothers of Charity at Freidmont. Again, no dates are given, but it would appear that he spent the rest of his life under the care of the Brothers. Early in 1865 he contracted a forn of con- sumption. He died at 10 o'clock on the morning of 8th May 1865 at the age of 55. Nafter having received with great piety the last Sacranents." (6) He is buried in our cemetery in Ere. er sae
