Fr. Justin Muldoon (1838-1914) Se Father Justin (Muldoon) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.~ Once more the festive season of our Lord's Nativity has been over-shadowed by sorrow and gloom in the Fother-house of the Anglo-Hibernian Province. For the past four years at or about Xmas, death has visited St. Joseph's Retreat, Vighrate, its victim this yeark I9IA being the Rev. Fr. Justin of the. Sacred Neart of Jesus who died Saturday afternoon Nec. I9th. His. last illness was of very brief duration At the beginning of Dec, he seemed in his usual vigorous srtength, attending all his duties, but soon serious symptons of senile decay and cardiac trouble began to manifes st themselves and deypite rhe assiduous care and attention of the doctor the aged ppatient grew weaker. The Last Sacraments were administered by his old Sriend Ir. ebthow on Thurs. evening Mec, T7th and again at mid-day on Gaturday he received Holy Viaticum. - We wag.in full posession of hie senses and repeated the prayers of contrition and resignation recited by Fr. Rector. Just as the religious finished. Vespers he died quite peacefully. Vr. Justin had vreeched a ripe age, having been born July 6th [838 at Oldcastle, Co. Meath. -Ile, belonged to a pious family which had given neny sons to the Church} his maternal uncle was the founder of All Hallows College , Dublin, and hie nepher, Fr. Vincent Crean, was adistinguished member of our Conzremation. Fr. Justin was known in the world as Tatrick Muldoon. . He was ordained priest for the secular mission at Maynooth College, and laboured for eighteen years in ns nitive diocese of Meath before entering our Congregation. He was professed as a Tassionist in T885 and was sent to our Retreat in Glasgow. After a long noriod of practical and unostentatious work there, he was transferred to Noly Gross, Ardoyne, and about twelve years ago he became a member of this community, and was appointed chaplain to Holborn Infirmary. : Fr. Justin physically was a splendid type of man, tall, strong and robust -a great lover of exercise, and this doubtless enabled him to the very end of his days,-to be a useful and active priests In character he was of retiring dispo- sition, gentle and kind. None evr heard him speak in haste or harshly or in anger of others. . None ever saw him ruffled in temper. Of him it can be -traly written he possessed his soul in patience. When he was dying and his ppeech became almost inarticulate, he would speak again and again to one of the Tathers, "T hope I am not givine too much trouble". All. these qualities which signalize a simple life, endeared Fr. Justin not only to his religious brethren, but also to the students of St. Aloysius! College, whose chaplain he had been for nine years. “The Solemn Office and Masa for the departed priest was sung at 9 o'clock, Monday Dec. 2Ist. Very Rev. Fr. Malachy, O.P., (Rector) was celebrant, assisted by Fre. Teidore and Robert as deacon. and subdeacon. Fr. Paul Francis was M.C. all four Fathers being diocesans of Fr. Justin. | The dirge was rendered *y the Trothers and students.of St. Aloysius! Collere. After the Obsequies the body was laid in the Mausoleum, while fervent prayers were uttered for fhe eternal rest ‘of the’ gentle soul of Fr. Justin.
