Br. Malachy Tiernan (1905-1972) The Rev. Brother Malachy, C.P. of St. Saviour's Retreat, Broadway, who died in Evesham General Hospital on Saturday, aged 66, managed the monastery's farm and garden, and supplied the community with milk, butter, eggs and fresh vegetables all the year round, as well as administering the sale of stock, cattle and pigs. Brother Malachy, who was born at Forkhill, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, his family name being Tiernan, joined the Passionist Congregation in 1928 and was professed at Broadway after a year's novitiate in 1930. He worked at the Passionist houses in Ilkley, London and Birmingham, but in all spent 21 years at Broadway, returning there after a severe illness in 1958. He had many friends in the village. Internment was in the monastery burial ground after a concelebrated Requiem Mass. (Newspaper cutting kept in Broadway platea.)
