Fr. MICHAEL Drysdale (1838-1866) Jrgu Curiet: Passio, Pray for the repose of the soul of the Rey, Father Miouary oy tux S. Heart or Many, (William Dryadale,) Passiouist, who died at Bt Mungo's, Stunhope Street, Glas _ gow, on the lat September 166, in the 28th year of hig age, the llth of hia life in Religion, and 6th of his priest- hood. | Father Michnal was barn at Tasson in Northumberland, on the Oth October 1838. Hia fathor being a Protestant, be was brought up as such till the age of 13, when he was received into the Catholio Church by the Rev. Jamas Moore at Sedgeley Purk, where he wus atachool, He was confirmed by the Hight Rey, Dr Ullathorne,- Bishop of Birminghan, on the 6th June 1852. Early in July 1856 he wus admitted among the Passionist Novices at Broadway, Worcestershire, and profossod‘on the follow. ing year, 1857, Having afterwards gone through his classical studies, and passed all his examinationa with honour und distino, tion, he was promoted to the Prieathood on the 27th October 1861 by Bishop Morris, (commissioned by the late Cardinal Wiseman, } in the Church of the Passionist Fathers, Highgate, London, a dis- pensation of one year having been obtained on account of his age, - In February 1862 he was appointed’ Vioe-buster of Norices, and removed to Broadway, Worcestershire, Several times sinoe December 1863 he was sent out with other Fatbers of the sume Order, to give Missions in differeut pluoes, both in Eugland wod Ireland. is sermons and instructions were very’nuch admired though simple in style, yet delivered with great earnestness and unction.. Wherever he went, bis unaffected piety and angelio de- . meapour soon won the love and affection of those among whoin he laboured. . In August 1865, the parish of 8t Mungo’a, Glasgow, having been entrusted by the lute Dr Murtdocl to tho care of the Pussion- ist Fathers, F. Miohnel was one of those chosen for that Mission, He hiad been in Glasgow little more than a year whon, amidst his untiring labours, he caught the typhus fever, which, afters shurt illness, curried him aff to bia eternal rust. His deuth caused the greatest sensation and moat aincere surrow, not only among tha members of his order, but among all that knew him, and partiou- larly the parishioners of St Mungo's. The funeral obsequies touk place in St Mungo’s Church on Monday, 3d September. His brother, the Rev. A. Drysdale, aud a large concourve of Priests and Laity, were present, The Right Rey. Dr Gray sang High Mfass, aud gave the absolution, The funeral procession was afterwards formed, consisting of the hearse, more than JO carriages and mourning coaches, containing the Bishop and Clergy, and the leading members of St Mungo’s Con- grogation. These were followed by the oung men of the Christiun Dootrine Soojety and the pupils of St Mungos Academy, besides a vast crowd of severul thousand persona who accompanied the funeral cortege to Dalbeth Cemetery, where he waa interred near the mortal remains of his fellow-labourer and brother in Religion, ’ the Rey, F, Hubert. , Coe, .
