Br. Norbert McFadden (1845-1923) , oS BROTHER NORBERY OF. TH? BLESSED VIRGIN. On the feast of St. Matthew, true patron of Religious, who, “at the cull of Tesuey "lett all and followed Him", died |this year in our Re treat of St. Faul of the Cross, Mount Argus, ‘Brother Norbert of the Blessed Virgin. His deat hw was due to senile decay. He had reached the 79th year of his. ate y “fifty-three of which had been passed in the Congregation. | | The decoased was a man of dedidedly virile character, a trait that has been prominent in the other members of his family, and notably in his brother, the late well-known Canon MeFadten of Gweedore, and in his 3econd cousin, the present Cardinal Logue, Archoisbop of Armagh. There® was nothing emali or petty in Brother Norbert! 3 dispo- sition: no ‘one ever, heard him apeaking in carping eritieism of his fellow-religious nor descend to banal gossip. His caithe was the strong Irish faith of 2 bygone day; and his purity was most delicate. He joined the Congregation in 1870, on the feast of St. Patrick; and after his profession, he was employed as cook and gardener,. ami for a short time as questor. In 1689. he accompanied the late rathor Joseph Cagstidy to Australia, where he remained for fifteen — years, residing most of those years at Mary's Mount, Goulburn, where he hod charge of the large garden attached to this retreat. Brother Norbert WES interred in the same grave where lie the remains of Brother Malachy, Close by is the grave of Brothers Lawerence and Clement. May he and they rest in peace!
