Confr. Paul Joseph Monsell (1870-1891) Conf.Paul Joseph of St.Paul of the Cross. 16.May.(late). Province of Sl.Joseph, This holy student was born in London on the 28th of April 1870 the feast of St.Paul of the Cross and his pious parents wishing to pive him the name of the Saint on whose feast day he was born, called him at his Baptism Paul Stanislaus. His family name was Monsell.Fran his earliest years he entertained great devotion towards the Saint whose name he bore and after studying for some time in the college of the Jesuits and Benedictines entered our Congregation and was profes- sed on the Sth of April 1888 in the Retreat at Broadway. He finished the philosophical course in the Retreat at Sutton and was then sent to London to study Theology. And it was at the end of his second year§ course that he was attacked with consumption which after six months caused his death. Three of his brothers had already died. Two were Dominicans and the third was impeded by sickness from joining the acclesiastical state. His only brother yet Living is a priest at the Italian Church of St.Peter in London. When he was abandoned by the doctors he perfectly resigned himself to the most holy Will of God and received With great fervour the last Sacraments and blessings of the Church. His life was short anongst us, but his conduct was so adifying that the Superiors looked upon him as one of the most exem- plary religious that had ever lived in that Province. At the time of his death he was 21 years of age.
