Fr. Paul Mary O'Neill (1862-1911) es Fabher Paul Kary (O'Neill) of the Immaculate. Conception. With much regret we announce the death of the Rev. Fr. Paul of the Immaculate Conception, Passionist, which took place on the 9th inst. (Aug. I9II). Born in Dublin.on the 24th July 1862, he was baptised as John Joseph O'Neill and received his early education at the Carmelite College, Clondalkin. There he showed @ marked vocation to the religious state, and when about I6 years of age applied for admission to our Congregation, He was received in May I879 at Broadway, Worcestershire, and made his sacred profession on the 4th June I880. His student life was spent at St. Joseph's, Highgate, and he was ordained to the priesthood at Pentecost [886. Shortly afterwards he was sent to St. Mungo's, Glasgow and was given charge of the Barlinnie and Duke Street prisons. Here he won the confidence and affection of the classes to whom he ministered and many a soul owes her conversion to the gentle word and kindly forbearance of Fr. Paul. After 4 years of this laborious work he was transferred to Sts Joseph's, Highgateand had in turn the charge of the parish or of the Hospitals. Here his sympathy and kindness were equally manifest. ‘So much so indeed that, although some years have elapsed since, he is still grate} fully remembered. the intervening years were spent alternatively in Sutton and Highgate in the former of which he acted as Vicar for 3 years. After the Provincial Chapter of 1908 he was appointed Vicar of St. kungots an office which he held until his death. Only 49 years of age he had spent more than 25 in the sacred Ministry. In Glasgow he will be long remembered for his zeal for souls, and unfailing kindness to the poor. And during his long years amongst them he was never known to give them an unsympathetic word or refuse them assistance. And those who saw him carried to his last resting place were deeply moved at the sight of their manifest grief. © In Fr. Paul the Congregation has lost an unselfish and devoted son, and his brethren one whom they revered. He has been taken when apparently in the midst of his years, and the poor for whom he laboured will surely pray for his eternal repose, and we his brethren will say: God rest his gentle soul.
