Fr. Seraphin Byrne (1847-1883) Faruver SeErRAPHIN or Sr. Teresa. Junuary Loth. Province of St. Josey Death not only in past years took from us many of our Con- gregation in England, but in this present year has also taken fron our province many of its younger members, amongst them the above named Priest, who was a native of Liverpool, born March 21st, 1847. In his twenty-second year moved by the uneertunty of this miserable life, he determined to turn his back on the world and ty secure his eternal salvation by entering Religion. Our Cougregation possesseda house near to his home where he could observe our ways of living and study our Mimstry which he found conformable to his ideas. Te decided to ask admission and conscerate himself to God’s service in our Congregation. He presented himself to our Superiors, and having manifested with great sincerity his desire, he was accepted, and sent to the Novitiate where he gave unmistaki!le signs of a true vocation and a resolute will to correspond to it; he was admitted to Profession, January 9th, 1870. According to our custom he was unmediately sent by his Superiors to the usual course of study in which he showed great intelligence, and quickly passed the different degrees till he received Holy Orders. Refleeting upon how much the Congregation had spent to place him in the position he found. himself ta, in grateful recognition of these benefits, he determined to serve it by labouring in the Ministry. With all his strength, he commenced to labour with zeal, first in our Missions; but very soon it was evident that he was threatened by consumption. Although very il he omitted in duty of his sacred Ministry. But his ilness inercased in London from day to day, and he at last felt he must make a sacrifice of his wishes and his activity to the Lord. Tis illness was pronounced by all to be incurable, he resigned himself wholly to the will of God, Wh» orders all things for our greater good, and with perfect calmness and tranquillity passed to his Eternal rest on the above named day. |
